Wheat is a very important food crop. To save the loss of wheat species like. T. aestivum, T. durum, T. dicoccum and Triticale, to provide right to breeders and farmers and to provide high quality seed (;lA.1d plant parts to the farmers and breeders and for their registration, Indian Parliament Constituted Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights act in 200l. For food crops and other crops, the DUS testing was started (in 2001). On the basis of distinctness, uniformity and stability the DUS testing for plant varieties is done. Two guidelines are developed for DUS testing in wheat and these guidelines are developed by the nominated members of Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority, New Delhi. For this testing, 3000 gm and 100 spikes of wheat are used. The two developed guidelines of wheat are T. aestivum and T. durum. For DUS testing in wheat 40 descriptors are used, which are developed on the basis of given guidelines. On the basis of success of DUS testing Protection of Plant Varieties and Fanners' Rights Authority, New Delhi registered two wheat varieties namely W 6001 and W 6301.
