Abstract

In last several years attempts have been made to improve the production performance of genetically improved broiler parent lines. As a result, the broiler synthetic male and female parent lines adapted to local climate conditions have been developed. In present investigation performance evaluation of broiler parent lines at home farm and the cross CARI-Dhanraja developed by crossing these parent lines at farmers doors as well as at 33rd Random sample test has been undertaken. The commercial broiler strain CARIBRO-Dhanraja was tested in 33rd RSPPT and achieved body weight of 1.49 and 1.95 kg at 6 and 7 week of age, respectively with FCR (0–6 weeks) of 1.4 and dressing percent as 72. Margin of receipt at 6 and 7 weeks were Rs. 31.06 and 35.33 respectively. CARIBRO-Dhanraja ranked II for FCR and margin of receipt among all the entries from different parts of countries. Keeping this in mind the field evaluation of CARIBRO-Dhanraja was carried out at four rural locations around Bareilly. The results of field evaluation exhibited better performance of CARIBRO-Dhanraja in cage as compared to deep litter system. The FCR in cases where farmers prepared the compound at farm was better (1.62) as compared to commercially available feed (2.11). The results indicated that broiler performance was better in cage and self prepared feed by farmer.
