Reduced fertility is the greatest hurdle encountered in improvement of dairy scenario in India. Study conducted at veterinary polyclinic Vatakara, Kozhikode, (Kerala) to assess the incidence of sub clinical endometritis in the locality. White side test performed on the uterine discharge of animals brought for insemination at the polyclinic. Out of 96 animals screened 44 which were normal clinically gave positive reaction with white side test. Only 8% of the animals suffering from endometritis showed clinical symptoms. Complications at previous calving found associated with development of endometritis at subsequent heat. Natural insemination was also found to be strongly associated with endometritis. White side test serve as strong test for detection of sub clinical endometritis, so that curative steps can be initiated in the early stage of uterine infection.
