Abstract

On farm research trials on performance of different rice cultivars were conducted during the Kharif season of 2007–2008 in farmers participatory mode in Anantnag District of Jammu and Kashmir with four rice varieties viz. K-332, K-39, K-448 and China-1039 at three locations in the mid altitude area. Yield contributing characters and grain yield (61.17 q/ha) were higher in the variety K-448. Increase in yield was 56% over the control variety K-332 and 12% and 9% over K-39 and China-1039, respectively. Net returns (Rs. 41,039/ha) and returns per rupee invested (1.6) were, also higher for the same variety. K-39 remained second in the order with respect to grain yield, net profit and benefit cost ratio.
