Abstract

Inoculations of VAM in SLS of low fertility significantly increased the cured leaf yield of tobacco at 0 and 20 kg P2O5/ha level. The VAM infection was highest at low P-levels. VAM inoculation resulted in a significant increase in the total nitrogen concentration and nicotine content of cured leaf. The pot culture study clearly revealed that application of VAM with 20 kg P2O5/ha could improve the cured leaf yield and the P-concentration of P-deficient kaolinitic rainfed Alfisols of SLS. It is therefore possible to save 40 kg P2O5/ha by using VAM in the SLS of Andhra Pradesh.
