Abstract

Levels of plasma glucose, total protein, albumin, A: G ratio, cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and urea in Zovawk pigs were influenced by age (P<0.05). Plasma glucose, total protein and globulin were higher in the adult group (104.26 mh/dl, 7.80,4.79 g/dl) than in the pre-weaning group (95.53 mg/dl, 6.74,3.14 g/dl) and the growers (91.35 mg/dl, 6.74, 3.16 g/dl). Adult group had lower albumin (3.01 g/dl) than preweaning group (3.60 g/dl) and growers (3.58 g/dl) and it reflected in higher A:G ratio in preweaning group and growers as compared to adults. Total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol declined gradually with age (P<0.05). The respective values for cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol in pre-weaning, grower and adult groups were 166.40, 161.01, 54.17, 97.84; 98.78, 141.76, 65.93 and 76.27, 87.52, 35.07, 47.72 mg/dl. Pigs with higher total cholesterol had higher levels of triglycerides, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol. Urea level increased in growers (34.21 mg/dl) from that of preweaning group (30.92 mg/dl) which became stable in adults (33.73 mg/dl).
