Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Kanpur during rabi seasons of 2004–05 and 2005–06 to study the interactive effects of moisture conservation practices and row spacings ori yield attributes, yield, root development and moisture use efficiency of rainfed mustard. The results revealed that the application of organic residue mulch @ -4 t ha1 on soil surface in between the crop rows after 25 days of sowing gave higher yield attributes, yield, moisture use efficiency, root development and net return over without mulch (control) and dust mulch treatments. Highest yield, moisture use efficiency, net return and cost: benefit ratio were obtained when crop was sown at 40 cm row spacing.
