Abstract

An experiment was started on Karanj at National Research Center for Agroforestry, Jhansi during August, 2005. The accessions of Karanj were collected from different places of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. These accessions were planted in randomized block design in three replications. At the age of five years all the accessions were evaluated for various morphological traits i.e. Plant height, collar diameter, No. of branches, canopy diameter pod length, pod width, pod thickness, seed length, seed width, seed thickness and average number of pod per plant. Out of 18 accessions 14 accessions were flowered and fruited. Average number of pod was recorded 111.46. Average number of pod ranged from maximum in NRCP-13 (347.50) to minimum in NRCP-14 (11) where as on the basis of single plant selection maximum number of pod was recorded in NRCP-21 (1027) followed by NRCP-13 (477), NRCP-24 (409), NRCP-17 (284), NRCP-22 (166). The variation found in different accessions could be useful in genetic improvement of this species.
