A study was conducted in the socio-economic status, cost and returns and input output ratio, the level of earnings and employment on farms of different sizes in Watershed Development Programme (WOP) and Now Watershed Development Programme (Non-WOP) in the year 2009–10. The average yields/ha of soybean, cotton, wheat and gram wewre 17.73,27.50, 42.33 and 18.57 quintal respectively in WOP as compared to 15.08, 22.68, 17.51 and 10.75 quintans in Non-WOP. The average cost of production/quintal of soybean, cotton, wheat and gram worked out at Rs. 1096.86, Rs. 982.76, Rs. 440.03 and Rs. 1288.45 respectively in WOP as compared to Rs. 1115.46, Rs. 1015.84, Rs. 4437.87 and Rs. 946.65 in Non-WOP. The average cost of production/quintal of soybean, cotton, wheat and gram worked out lower in WOP than in Non-WOP. The average cost benefit ratio was higher for soybean, wheat and potato in WOP as compared to Non-WOP.
