Abstract

The present investigation was carried out during the year 2009–10 in two blocks namely Rajnandgaon and Khairagarh of Rahnandgaon district of Chhattishgarh region. From each block, thirteen village panchayats and from each village panchayat six panchayat leaders viz., sarpanch, deputy sarpanch and four chairman of standing committees were randonly surveyed. The socio-personal and economic characteristics of the respondents revealed that majority of the respondents were found in middle age group (32–53 years), educated upto middle school level (6th-8th), 53.21% belonged to other backward class. Maximum resondents were male and had medium size of family (4–9 members), marginal land holding (0.1–2.5 acre) with exclusively agriculture occupation and income category of less than Rs. 20,000 per annum.
