During the year 2007–08 to 2011–12, a total of 490 barley front line demonstrations were alloted to eight barley growing states of India out of which 343 were successfully conducted. During this period, the yield difference in barley frontline demonstration and conventional farmers practices ranged from 0.4 to 8.65 q/ha. Among all states, least difference was found in Haryana (0.4 q/ha.) and Rajasthan (3.27 q/ha.) whereas maximum difference was recorded in UP (8.65 q/ha.) followed by Gujarat (6.86 q/ha.). It indicates thst UP and Gujarat have more scope to increase area and production in future. The extension workers, researchers and policy makers should give more attention to these states to increase barley production and yield.
