To increase the poroductivity and sugar recovery are main strategies for the selection of elite parents in sugarcane breeding program. Sugarcane productivity and sugar recovery are governed by sugar and yield-related traits like number of millable cane, stalk length, stalk diameter, per cane weight, cane yield, brix %, sucrose %, commercial cane sugar% and sugar yield. The experiment was conducted at Sugarcane Research Institute, Shahjahanpur during 2011–12 in three replications with RBD. Correlations among agronomic and quality characters in 120 progenies derived from bi-parental cross of UP 9530 and Co 86011 were studied in this experiment. Commercial cane sugar% showed positively and highly significant correlation with sucrose% in juice (r = 0.989) and brix% (r = 0.984), millable cane (r = 0.782), per cane weight (r =0.473) and sucrose% in juice (r = 0.405). Sucrose% in juice was also positively significant correlation as showed between per cane weight and internode length (r = -206) as well as leaf length and stalk diameter (r = -103). Significant correlation between the important economical traits was found in our result. Results indicates that the genotypes should be selected on the basis of commercial cane sugar%, sucrose % in juice, brix%, sugar yield and millable cane number for getting higher sugarcane yield as well as sugar recovery.
