Abstract

Mewat district of Haryana is one of the 150 less developed and backward districts of India. Here the availability of water is less and also alkaline. The present study was undertaken during the year 2013 on Pearl Millets cultivation under laser levelling technique on 16 farmer families of 7 villages of Mewat. It has been observed that laser levelling saved 32.18% of irrigation water and decreased weed occurance by 27.81% there by the yield of Bajra increased by 52.77% and net profit by 95.4%. The leser levelling was found very useful in water conservation and increasing the crop productivity. The only constraint in the extension of this technology felt is huge investnment on laser leveler, therefore for collective effort for custom hiring as an alternative is suggested.
