Abstract

In the present investigation an attempt has been made to assess the participation of women in making different household decisions. A decision making index (DMI) also has been developed for different household decisions. A survey in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh revealed that in spite of their significant contribution in economic activities of the family, women do not enjoy sufficient autonomy/independence in talking different household economic decisions in the family. The patriarchic forms of decision making and dominance over women still continue in the investigated area. This social attitude needs a change. Education and improvement in economic independence will help in increasing women's involvement in the decision making
