Jamunapari, the highest in body weights and milk production among 23 goat breeds of the country, has its origin in Chakkar Nagar area of Etawah District in Uttar Pradesh. At present, the animals of this breed are being used to upgrade local goats of the country as well as to evolve new goat breeds in various countries. Anglo-Nubian dairy goat breed was developed in England using Jamunapari bucks. Jamunapari goats are well adapted to Ravines of Yamuna, Chambal and Kwari rivers in the breeding tract where shrubs are abundantly available for browsing. Data on 1583 Jamunapari kids born during 2010–2014 at Central Institute for Research on Goats, Makhdoom, Farah, Mathura were recorded to study the impact of various factors affecting body weights and milk production traits. The overall least squares means for body weights of kids at birth, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months age were 3.204±0.027, 11.286±0.099, 15.997±0.224, 19.615±0.231 and 25.044±0.296 kg and 90 and 140 days milk production were 77.670±1.998 and 109.783±3.066 lit., respectively. Sex, year of birth and type of birth had highly significant (P<0.01) influence on all the body weights and year of birth, parity and type of birth showed highly significant influence on milk production traits. Male kids than female kids and single born kids than twins and triplet kids gained significantly higher body weights at all ages. Results indicated that goats produced highest milk in their second parity while type of birth had no significant effect on 90 and 140 days milk production. Selection of breeding bucks based on their nine month body weight and 90 days milk yield of their dams was found to be effective and it may be used for further genetic improvement of Jamunapari goats for body weights and milk production.
