Abstract

Even though India stands first in milk production, majority of the farmers are practicing unhygienic and unhealthy milk production practices thus the produced milk is of poor standards. So keeping in mind the objective of good hygienic milking practices of dairy farming, the study was purposively conducted in Central Plain and Eastern Plain Zones of UP. From each zone one district and from each district two blocks were randomly selected. From each block two villages were selected randomly. And from each village 20 respondents having at least one lactating animal were randomly selected. This study showed that only 6% in Central Plain Zone and only 8% in Eastern Plain Zone was good and hygienic milking practices was adopted by the respondents. As the overall adoption of good hygienic milking practices is low, there is a need to organize awareness programs and trainings to the stakeholders for capacity building and appropriate policy and schemes should be formulated to facilitate adoption of good and hygienic milking practices.
