Abstract

Colostrum is secreted from mammary gland of mother just after birth of calf. Antibody, nutritional elements and many other growth factors are present ad-lib in colostrum which is important for calves to protect from different diseases. So colostrums is called a “Gold liquid” for new born calves. This is important for passive immunity just after birth. With increment of time, absorptive capacity of intestine decreases and totally stops after 24 hours. The essential nutrient can be supplemented to the orphan calves by artificial colostrum. With the importance of colostrum it can be preserved for a long time by superior techniques. So during initial stage feeding of adequate amount of colostrum to calves is essential.
