The fast changing dietary habits, increasing income and rapid urbanization due to the demographic and economic expansion of cities through migration and industrialization will further proportionately accelerate the peri-urban population and the demand for the higher quantity of quality milk and food security of urban population may be come the great question in coming decades. So, the present study was conducted in the peri-urban area of Bengaluru. The studies revealed that Bengaluru urban and rural districts show positive growth rate on cross breed animal population. This shows that dairy farming is one of the important livelihood activity in the peri-urban area of Bengaluru. So, this needs a special attention in understanding the farmers ’current working conditions of dairy farming for appropriate technological interventions and extension approaches for augmenting dairy production in peri-urban regions.
