Abstract

FecB gene is mainly responsible for prolificacy in sheep. FecB gene in various countries in the world utilizing for increasing the economic profit of sheep farming using as molecular marker for selection of animals. This study has been conducted in Kendrapada sheep breed in ICAR-Central Sheep and Wool Research Institite farm at Avikanagar. In this study, the genetic polymorphism of the fecundity gene has been detected. Genomic DNA of 120 sheep has been isolated and FecB gene amplified by gene specific primer. After the PCR-RFLP analysis, we found that, Kendrapada sheep have been reported all three genotypes with genotyping frequency of BB, ++ and B+ as 0.40, 0.13 and 0.47 respectively. The allelic frequency have been found for B and + alleles as 0.63 and 0.37 respectively. Kendrapada sheep breed will be utilizing in marker assisted breeding programme in non-prolific sheep breed.
