Metal(II) complexes with histidine as the ligand have been prepared. The possible stereochemistry of the complexes have been deduced with the help of infrared, UV/VIS, metal analysis and conductivity measurements. The IR data revealed the coordination of the metal(II) ions through the nitrogen of the ligand and oxygen of the carboxylate group. The electronic spectral results indicated a square planar geometry around the metal(II) ions except the cobalt(II) complex where an octahedral geometry is proposed.
