The effect of natural rubber plant sap on the corrosion susceptibility of mild steel in hydrochloric acidsolutlon has been studied. Weight loss measurement indicates that the natural organic inhibitor is more efficient on the mild steel surface than most of the synthetic organic inhibitors reported. The inhibition effect is more pronounced with increasing temperature as well as inhibitor concentration. Chemical adsorption mechanism has been proposed for the inhibitor. The versatility of the rubber latex on mild steel surface in acid media is probably attributed to the presence of protein and quebrachitol molecules in the latex composition.
