Abstract

An area of about 150 sq km has been mapped during the years 2013 and 2014 on 2 cm to 1 km scale in Khammam district of Telangana State. The region lies between Long. 80° 30’ E-80° 41’ E and Lat. 17° 15’ N-17° 21’ N of Survey of India toposheet no: 65 C/11. About 200 rock specimen were collected representing the different types and out of them 100 thin sections were prepared, they have been studied for their mineralogical and textural relationships. Lithologically, the area represents an amazing diversity of regional metamorphic rocks ranging from the epidote-amphibolite facies to the granulitic facies of metamorphism.

Five rock samples of khondalites have been chemically analyzed for major, trace and rare earth elements. Petro-chemical calculations including Niggli values and CIPW norms have been carried out. Two co-ordinate and three co-ordinate diagrams based on these calculations have been constructed to decipher the petro-genesis of khondalites. Petrological evidences, geochemical data and geo-chemical trends strongly support the metamorphic origin for the khondalites.
