Abstract

This paper takes a cursory look at the significance of indigenous knowledge in the transformation of rural areas through information dissemination in a cultural setting.

Pragmatic efforts were made to identify various people who have a repertoire of knowledge in a cultural milieu with a view to knowing the importance and impact of IK on the people, most especially, as a viable alternative for rural library collections.

The paper concludes that IK is a necessary and available tool for the establishment of rural libraries owing to the global economic meltdown.
