Scientometric analysis of agriculture literature: A global perspective

Abstract

The whole world depends on agriculture for sustenance. Agriculture produces food, feed, fiber, fuel, furniture, raw materials and material for factories. It provides a free tare and fresh environment and abundant food for driving out famine and hunger. Hence, agriculture is the most important enterprise in the world.

The study presents a scientometric analysis of scientific output in the area of agriculture in the last 66 years. The objectives of the study are to offer an overview of research trends in the agriculture publications and to evaluate the quality of the research. The results indicate that the Global Agriculture research is presently showing upward trend. Regarding country-wise distribution of publications in Agriculture research, the USA tops, and among the journals the most preferred is Agriculture Ecosystoms & Environment which published 533 papers. Among the researchers Prof URI, ND has the highest number of article-48to his credit. Among the contribution funding agencies National Science Foundations has made the highest contribution. Ninety one percent of the publications have been written in English. All the findings indicate that as agriculture affects various fields high priority is being bestowed upon agriculture research, globally.
