Abstract

The paper gave a multidimensional appraisal of newspaper indexing for research purposes. It explained the rationale for indexing newspapers, choice of papers and materials indexed as well as indexing and filing systems. Based on the records of Hezekiah Oluwasanmi Library, statistics for patronage of the collection in terms of number of requests for files, number of files requested for and annual clipping additions were given. Problems confronting the collection such as inadequate storage facilities and pilfering were examined. The paper concluded that the collection has made it possible for users to get information on topical issues that are not readily available in books.
