Abstract

In this paper, the author would discuss about how Social media (social networking sites (facebook, MySpace), blogs, online communities, wikis, RSS, aggregators, photo-sharing softwares, social bookmarking softwares and IM) has impacted obesity. For example, Rudd Center, through its face book page, twitter page, you tube videos, podcast series, seeks to improve the world's diet, prevent obesity, and reduce weight stigma. Similarly, there are several blogs on/about obesity such as, the blog, Escape from obesity (http://www.escapefromobesity.net/); it talked about life and inner thoughts of an obese mom. In addition, the author would also discuss about the blogs, Weight Loss Success Stories (http://weight-loss-story.blogspot.in/) and Ask the Dietician (http://www.dietitian.com/).Further, the paper would highlight some online health communities, such as, Healia Communities (http://communities.healia.com/) and weight Loss Support community (http://weight-loss.fitness.com/); these communities propagates trustworthy information. Moreover, the author would also discuss the podcast on being Healthy for Busy People (http://www.beinghealthy.tv/) and audio podcast on Yell at Your Fat (http://www.yellatyourfat.com/). The paper would conclude with a discussion on the Let's Move (http://www.letsmove.gov/) campaign, launched by the first lady Michelle Obama to combat ever rising childhood obesity in the U.S.
