Growth and publication trends of LIS research in Asian Countries

Abstract

The study attempts to trace the research trends in Library and Information science in Asian countries during the periods 1996–2011 as reflected on the SCImago Journal and country ranking (SJR) database. It analyses the publications output of Asian countries in the discipline and evaluates the growth trend, relative growth rate, the distribution of citations etc. The Activity index ofthe Asian countries -has been calculated for the years to observe how the Asian countries’ research activity changed during period of study. The study shows that there is increase In quantity of research literature as well as the self citations. But the number of citations received are declining. The paper concludes by providing suggestions for improving the quality of research in Library and information Science.
