Abstract

Digital library has taken a long stride towards the development and extension of library and its services not only beyond the four walls but beyond borders. Taking advantage of information technology, corporate bodies and institutions have already moved ahead in this area and created the digital library to harvest its rich fruit. In order to ascertain the status of IT application in the universities of Jammu & Kashmir, literature on the subject was surveyed. The literature search reveals existence of and access to e-journals, open archive journals, institutional repositories, knowledge management, digital divide, open source software, ICT and education. The search also shows that very little work has been done in the universities of this region.
