Applications of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has changed the concept of libraries. The Libraries are now come up from the physical boundaries to the virtual world. Nowadays, Libraries are slowly and gradually getting digitized. A 'Digital Library ‘comprises digital collections, services and infrastructure to support lifelong learning, research, scholarly communication as well as preservation and conservation of the recorded knowledge. This article discuss the factors that demands the traditional libraries to get digitized and what are the role of librarian in the new environment. The paper also throws some lights on the theoretical framework of the concept digital library.
