Users attitude towards crime and destruction of library materials in degree colleges of Nanjangud taluk, Karnataka: A study

Abstract

Ever since the libraries are established, the crime and destruction activities from the library users are there in one or other form. In this connection the researchers have conducted a study to know the library users attitude towards the crime and destruction activities in the degree colleges in Nanjangud Taluk, Karnataka. For the data collection the researchers have applied survey method through questionnaire technique. All together, 200 questionnaires were distributed to the users of the libraries and 150 filled questionnaires were received back (75% of response). Further the researchers have sought information on the aspects like, the background information of the respondents and their parents, the purpose of library visit, opinion of library users towards the crime and destruction activities occurred in the libraries. In addition the reasons and situations in which the users engage in these activities, and the actions taken by the users when their fellow users engage in such acts are also covered. On the other hand, this study determines the effective measures that can be taken to reduce these activities in the libraries along with some of the major findings and fruitful suggestions are listed at the end.
