Library without walls: perspectives on higher educational institutions in India

Abstract

Exponential growth of information as well as newly emerging disciplines provides variety of literature to the users. Libraries are unable to maintain these kinds of resources in the traditional format of printed materials. There are various difficulties such as space, time, cost, unable to access current articles in a particular subject area etc., which would not support to keep the printed resource in libraries. In this circumstance internet technology paves the way to solution to preserve library resources in the electronic format such as digital and online resources. Libraries without walls in which the users could receive information in a short time, could transfer information via internet, or electronic devices like CD's etc.
