Impact of UGC programmes on enhanced research productivity of department of chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar: A bibliometric study

Abstract

The UGC has recognized the department of Chemistry Guru Nanak Dev University as the centre for advanced studies (CAS) in 2008 and has been decorated the university with status of “University with potential of excellence ”(UPE) in 2012. This paper brings out the strong positive impact of these UGC research and education promotion programmes on the quantity and quality of research in department of chemistry during the period 2007–2014 in comparison to period 2002–2006. The number of research papers published during the period of 2007–2014 has been 105/year which is almost double the papers (54 papers/year) published during 2002–2006. The contribution of papers published in journals with IF > 3 has been increased from 18.35% during 2002–2006 to 34.43% in period 2007–2014. Even the contribution of high IF (IF > 5) has been increased from 2.53% to 6.03%. h-index of the chemistry department has been increased to 47 (2007–2014) in comparison to 42 in the period 2002–2006.
