Abstract

Public Library is treated as People's University in terms of its multifaceted users of the total Society. Discussed the basic concepts and need of Public Libraries. Discussed the need of modernization of public libraries. It is high time to have digital libraries in addition to traditional libraries. Highlighted the impact of ICT in public libraries of 21st century. Discussed the states of public libraries in Assam. Computerisation is the first steps while digitization is the next step to follow also describe the aspects of modernization and need of modernization of public libraries in the states of Assam.
