LiCoO2 bulk cathode is synthesized by sintering a mixture of high purity LiCoO2 and LbO powder with excess of Li i.e. Li/Co> 1.0 by adding Li2O. The X-ray diffraction pattern for LiCoO2 powder synthesized at 800°C showed a random orientation of three major, well defined reflections of (003), (104) and (101). These peaks were indicated as that polycrystalline structure with R3m layered rock salt structure. The atomic force microscopy data demonstrated that the deposited bulk LiCoO2 is homogeneous and uniform with regard to the surface topography and thickness. The surface is composed of irregular grains with high root mean square surface roughness. The growth of bulk LiCoO2 is studied for its effective utilization as cathode material in solid state micro battery application.
