Chester-Chisnell-Whitham method, a very well known theory in shock dynamics’ is used to study the variation of strength of earthquake in sea water to analyse the tsunami. Neglecting the effect of overtaking disturbances, the analytical relations for shock strength (strength of earthquake), shock velocity, particle velocity and pressure are obtained in strong and weak for two cases viz.(1) when shock waves are diverging and (2) when they are converging. Finally, the flow variables are computed and discussed with the help of tables.
