Abstract

Detection of protein fractions in gonads by SDS-PAGE is an important aspect of the present investigation. The depletion, destruction and degeneration of protein metabolites in the gonads of experimental groups of Spodoptera exigua, correlated with the depletion of –vely charged protein fractions were detected by SDS-PAGE. Testicular samples of male Spodoptera exigua consists of variable protein fractions ranging from 14.4 kDa of high intensity in 2 day, 24 kDa of high intensity in 4 day, two bands of 26 kDa of high intensity and 67 kDa of very weak intensity in 6 day, 94 kDa of high intensity in 8 day quercitrin glycoside treated insects and 14.4 kDa of weak intensity in 2 day, 24 kDa of weak intensity in 4 day, 26 kDa of high intensity in 6 day, 94 kDa of weak intensity in 8 day flavonol glycoside treated insects. A rapid cessation of protein metabolites was noted in 2nd – 8th days flavonol glycoside treated adult male. Results indicate that flavonol gycoside had strong toxicity on adult male of Spodoptera exigua than quercitrin glycoside treated adult male. The parameter of GSI plays very significant role which evaluate the reproductive potency of the concerning animal. Quercitrin glycoside and flavonol glycoside showed adverse effect on the GSI (MFI) hence directly or indirectly affecting the fertility of Spodoptera exigua in the present investigation.
