Physico-chemical properties of soil collected from mansagar Lake, Jaipur

Soil is the naturally occurring unconsolidated or loose covering on the earth’s surface. The soil sediments of water bodies are analysed for their physico-chemical characteristics in order to judge the effects of pollution on it. In aquatic ecosystems, the sediments are in a complex mileaw with the over laying water, they affect water chemistry and are being affected by it. In the present study, an attempt has been made to assess the quality of soil sediments surrounding area of Mansagar lake. During the period under study monthly variations in physico-chemical parameters viz pH, chloride, alkalinity, organic matter was assessed as per the standard methods. Colour of soil was black in contrast to normal grey colour. High alkalinity, pH content in samples indicates that soil is polluted.
