Assay of activity levels of LDH & SDH in both male and female Ascaridia galli (schrank, 1788) freeborn, 1923 parasitizing Gallus gallus domesticus

Abstract

Parasites do adapt themselves to the changing environment in the host regarding this a survey of the literature has indicated that in the present parasite A. galli (schrank, 1788) freeborn, 1923. Lactic acid production, glycogen content, glycolytic enzymes and properties of purified aldolase, enolase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase were worked by Srivastava et.al (1970) in the worms collected from laboratory infected hosts. However, It is necessary that a knowledge of the substrate contents and the enzyme activities in the worms of naturally infected birds and in crude extracts, is highly essential inorder to understand their activities in the living system which is an admixture of a variety of enzymes and complex activities.

Hence to elucidate the carbohydrate metabolism in A.galli and the metabolic differentiation of male and female worms in this direction the present investigation has been carried out of the activity levels of LDH & SDH. The results obtained on the LDH activity in male and female worms of A.galli are shown suggesting that the activity is more in female by about 12%. The results obtained on the SDH activity of male and female worms are indicated that its activities, less in males by about 42%.
