Study on diveresity of spider fauna in Jnana Sahyadri campus, Shimoga, Karnataka

Abstract

A study on diversity of spiders in different locations of Jnana Sahyadri campus, Kuvempu University, Shimoga, Karnataka was conducted using beating, Active searching, visual observation and net sweeping and leaf litter sampling techniques. Survey and sampling was conducted during January to April 2013. A total of 316 individuals of 17 species belonging to 10 families were recorded. The Salticidae was the most dominant family having the highest number of species recorded (6), followed by the family Oxyopidae and Pholcidae (2) and in families Hersiliidae, Lycosidae (Wolf spider), Theridiidae, Araneidae, Agelenidae, Sparassidae and Nephilidae one species each.
