Development a method for controlling Varroa destructor with biopesticides under egyptian and saudi conditions

Abstract

The honey bee, Apis mellifera L., is critical not only for honey production but also for crop pollination. The honey bee mite Varroa destructor is currently a worldwide parasite of the honey bee. This study aims to determine the effect of infestation with V. destructor in both Kingdom Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Egypt, demonstrate applications of biopesticides such as (Metarhizium anisopliae, Beauveria bassiana and Paecilomyces fomosoroseas)and the delivery of the fungus into the hives. Data showed significant differences between treatments with M. anisopliae, B. bassiana and P. fomosoroseas. results were significant after 7 days of application and 14 days of application in both Egypt and KSA, Daily mite mortality was significantly different between the hives before and after the applications of the fungus. Also, there were significant differences between treatments with fungus in workers body weights. Scanning electron microscope image showed fungal penetration hyphae through stigma and wound on varroa.
