Erythropoietin is a glycoprotein growth factor involved in population level of erythrocytes in blood. In addition wide variety of experimental studies has shown that both Erythropoietin and Erythropoietin receptor are expressed in central nervous system. Studies show the protective properties of Erythropoietin in different cellular and animal models. The protection effect of Epo may play an important role in neurodegenerative disease therapy. In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of three type of Erythropoietin (Acidic Epo, Basic Epo and Dimer Epo) on Aβ25–35-induced astrocyts toxicity in 2D and 3D culture and its potential mechanisms for protection. Acidic-Epo significantly induced cell viability and decreased the number of apoptotic-like cells that measured with MTT and LDH test. In addition, we also explored the possible interaction of AEpo with Aβ25–35 peptide by circular dichroism.
