We report rapid, mild and versatile procedures for the preparation of thermoreactive and photoreactive PVA. Activation of polyvinyl alcohol is carried out by two different methods namely: photochemical method and thermochemical method. Photochemical method of activation of PVA gives thermoreactive PVA and thermochemical method of activation of PVA gives photoreactive PVA. Immobilization of biomolecules was carried out onto these activated surfaces and subsequently efficacy of the two surfaces was compared.
