GENERAL

All manuscripts should be addressed to the Editor in-chief, Biotech Today, 35, Akshardham, Roorkee Raod, Modipuram, Meerut - 250110 U.P. India. Submission of an article implies that it has not bee previously published and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; and further, that if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere. Two copies of manuscripts of all categories are to be submitted with a letter of transmittal, giving names and complete addresses (including telephone numbers, e-mail i.d. etc. if available) of all the authors.

International Journal of Biological Sciences Biotech Today is a multi disciplinary journal and therefore research and review papers of general significance that are written clearly and well organized will be given preference. All papers’s solicited and unsolicited, will be first assessed by a Reviewing Editor. Papers found unsuitable in terms of the overall requirements of he journal will be notified of acceptance, revision or rejection of the paper. It may be noted that papers once rejected cannot be resubmitted. Illustrations and other materials to be reproduced from other publications must be properly credited; it is the authors’ responsibility to obtain permission for reproduction of figures, tables, etc. from published sources (copies of letters of permission should be sent to the editor-in-chief).

Declarations to be made regarding ethical issues

Manuscripts that deal with clinical findings should be enclosed with a statement on informed consent of the patients under study. If humans and animals are the subject of a clinical study, it is essential for the study to have been carried out in accordance with the ethical standards of the country/ countries where the research described in the article has been conducted. A declaration to that effect must accompany the manuscripts.

Author conflict of interest statement

Authors must knowledge the organizations that have provided financial support for their work. Any other conflict of interest must be declared while submitting the manuscripts.

CATEGORIES OF MANUSCRIPTS

General articles not exceeding 5000 words, 8 display items (tables and figures)] discuss current trends in research in a field that would be of interest to readers outside the field. These include interdisciplinary topics, science policy and science administration, some aspects of the application of science and technology to human needs or the impact of science and technology on society/ecosystem/life. The articles should include an abstract, introductory paragraph, brief subheads at appropriate places, illustrations that will help a general reader and references.

Review articles (not exceeding 7000-8000 words, cited references to be limited to about 100 in number) are expected to survey and discuss current developments in a field. They should be well focused and organized, and avoid a general =textbook‘ style.

Research articles (not exceeding 5000 words) report research result of major significance. They should include an abstract, an introductory paragraph and brief subheads.

News (not exceeding 1000 words) can cover important scientific events or any other news of interest to scientist in general.

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

Manuscripts should be typed/printed double spaced on one side of white paper (21*28 cm). The pages should be numbered consecutively, starting with the title page and through the text, reference list, tables and figures legends. The title should be brief, specific and amenable to indexing. Not more than five keywords should be indicated separately; these should be chosen carefully and must not be phrases of several words. Abstract and summary should be limited to 100 words and convey the main points of the paper, outline the results and conclusions, and explain the significance of the results. The full length paper should have the following headings.

SHORT TITLE : A short title, not exceeding 35 letters, should be typed at the top of first page in first letters capitals and underlined.

TITLE : The title should be short and informative, typed in first letters capital, Latin names underlined

AUTHORS : Names of authors to be typed in first letters capital.

ADDRESS : Address of the institution where the work was carried out. Footnote should indicate the authors for correspondence.

MAIN HEADINGS : Each full-length research paper should be divided into the following main headings which are to be bold and typed in first letters capitals on the left hand side of the pag: Abstract, Introduction : Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, References.

SUB-HEADINGS : Typed flush left in first letter capital, bold and italicized.

Abstract : A brief abstract, not exceeding 200 words should be typed after address.

Key words : The Abstract should be followed by about five key words indicating the contents of the manuscript.

Introduction : Introduction should be brief and pertinent.

Materials and Methods : Materials and Methods should include the source and nature of material, experimental design and the techniques employed.

Result : Result should contain data which are essential for drawing main conclusion from the study. Wherever needed the data should be statistically analyzed. Same data should not be presented in tables and figure form.

Discussion : The discussion should deal with the interpretation of the results. Wherever possible, Results and Discussion can be combined.

Tables : Tables should be typed on separate sheets, each with a heading. Tables should be typed with the first letter capital, table number in Arabic numerals, followed by a period.

Figures : For each figure submit a glossy print or original drawing. Photomicrograph should have a scale bar. Line drawings should be roughly twice the final printed single column size of 7.5 cm width. Text figures should be numbered in Arabic numerals. Captions and legends to illustrations should be typed on a separate sheet of paper. Line drawings and photograph should contain figure number and authors’ name, on the back with soft lead pencil. Colour photographs will be printed if author(s) pay Rs 600/- (or US $ 20) as processing charges.

Abbreviations : Use standard abbreviations. Some of the common abbreviations are given below: A (absorbance); h (hour); min (minutes); sec (seconds); cpm (counts per minutes); Ci (Curie); molwt (molecular weight); kD (kilo Dalton); kb (kilo base); sp act (specific activity); wt (weight); SD (standard deviation); SE (standard err); DAF (days after flowering)

Acknowledgment : It should be as brief as possible.

Footnotes : They are not normally allowed except to identify the author for correspondence.

Jurisdiction : The jurisdiction for all disputes concerning submitted articles, published material, advertisement, subscription and sale will be at court/tribunals situated in Meerut only.
