The present studies have been carried out to find out the location specific suitable varieties in terms of biomass and productivity in district Uttarkashi. Three varieties of Finger Millet (VL-149, VL-315, VL-146) with local check had been grown in village Rathal of district Uttarkashi. The data related to the growth and productivity of millet crop was observed. The result obtained reveled that all the three improved varieties were more productive as compared to the local cultivars. The productivity of improved varieties of finger millet was about three times more than the local variety. The improved varieties i.e. VL-149, VL-315 and VL-146 showed significant improvement in grain and straw yields. Apart from this, seed treatments, line sowing, and timely weeding enhanced the yield of local variety too. As compared to the local variety, the improved varieties VL-149, VL-315 and VL-146 produced much higher grain yields, amounting 17.31, 13.30 and 14.93 Q/ha, respectively.
