Abstract

The use of probiotics has become a field of science, medicine and business that is growing rapidly. Health benefits of probiotics are multifaceted and include prevention and treatment of various types of alleviation of lactose intolerance, allergies, diarrhea, immunomodulation, atopic diseases and maintain the health of gut microbiota. Moreover, the use of antibiotics as growth promoters in poultry animals inhibits the growth of beneficial bacteria in their gut. Hence, the use of probiotics as a supplement in the diet of poultry animals could be as an eco-friendly alternative for antibiotics in poultry nutrition. The role of probiotics as an alternative to antibiotics is due to their diverse beneficial aspects and usage as growth enhancers in animals including poultry and fish. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are widespread in diverse natural habitats and comprise of a wide range of genera that have probiotic properties. The outcomes of present article could meet the desired probiotic functional properties including the phytase-producing ability which is one of the most wanted probiotic characteristics and their applications for upgrading poultry nutrition, alternative to antibiotics, enhancing feed conversion and minimizing anti-nutritional properties.
