Abstract

The genus Trichoderma comprises of a large group of fungi which play a significant role in the ecosystem. Several members of the genus are commercially available as a plant growth promoting fungus (PGPF) and biological control agent. They have a wide application in plant disease management as well as plant growth promotion. In addition to it, they have industrial and medicinal importance too. Amongst the beneficial fungi, Trichoderma maintains top rank in the list. Moreover, in contrast to its immense beneficial effects, the genus Trichoderma also comprises several species which have deleterious effect on both flora and fauna. These species have emerged as a potent human pathogen along with pathogens of agriculturally important crops. The chief idea behind this review article is to document the negative effects of Trichoderma spp. and to get aware with the degree of threat it imposes on the environment.
