The Linkage between Ethical Leadership and Employee Engagement for Managerial Performance: A Critical Review

Abstract

Ethical leadership is a unique style of leadership which a leader personally feels rewarding as well as the followers gratification. It creates a dynamic environment in which people will cooperate, motivate and innovates; and brings material rewards for themselves as well as for the organizational performance. Many a time's dishonesty and disobedience by managers have led to an increase in the notice about ethically sound behaviors and decision making within organizations. The question is asked whether or not an employee's perception of a leader's value will impact their relationship within an organization at various levels which leads to managerial performance? Because of this research gap has to formulate in the aim of the present research is based on employees’ perceptions of a leader's value of courtesy, consideration, fairness, moral integrity and social equality as perceptions of ethical leader values and examines the impact of these perceptions on the employee engagement for managerial performance in organizations.

The objectives of this research is to find the gaps that how ethical leadership impact on employee engagement and to find out the relationship between ethical leadership and employee engagement in Indian context.

The methodology is used for the present study is purely based on secondary data such as published articles, reviewed report, etc.

The outcomes of the study related to resembles findings by Den Hartog and Belschak; Walumbwa et al.; Chughtai et al. (2015) and Kalshoven and Boon (2012). The ethical leadership behavior in organization motivates and empowers employees. Similarly, ethical leader in any organization listens to stakeholders and is truthful and transparent with them with regard to their moral evaluations, which leads to employee engagement and organizational performance.
