Abstract

Seven advanced jute (Corchorus capsularis Linn.) cultivars and two standard check varieties were tested for resistance to semilooper (Anomis sabulifera Guen) and stem weevil (Apion corchori Marshall) during two consecutive kharif seasons (2003 and 2004) under field conditions. Cultivars C-513 and C-512 were most promising against semilooper and stem weevil with an average infestation of 3.22, 4.54 and 5.44, 6.74%, respectively and may be considered as multiple resistant and superior to check varieties JRC-321 and JRC-698.
