A field experiment at farmer's fields was conducted during 200607 and 2007–08 to investigate the effect of fertilizers nutrients, yield and nutrient uptake by rice (Oryza sativa L.)-wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori and Paol.) cropping system in Banda district of Bundelkhand zone (Uttar Pradesh). Application of N alone increased yield of rice-wheat system by 85.2% over control. Application of P over N increased yield of system by 66.8%. Addition of K with N and P resulted in 27.1% yield increase. Application of zinc sulphate over N, P and K increased yield by 12.8% of rice-wheat system. Return per Re investment on fertilizers was maximum of Rs 7.33 with the application of N alone while application of N, P, K and Zn gave Rs 6.90 return per Re invested. Uptake of nutrients was 136.20 kg N + 26.42 kg P2O5 + 116.59 kg K2O ha−1 in rice-wheat system with application of all N, P, K and zinc sulphate.
