Abstract

The Earth naturally displays some pleasing colours through leaves, flowers and foliage of tree. In today's context, flowers are the most appealing natural beautifying agents loved by all people and colouring matter extracted from flower can be used as natural dye in food science and textiles. The dye produced from flowers is eco- friendly and it is a most important component for our health as well as for maintaining ecological environment. In our society who is aware about harmful effect of synthetically dyed food items and fabrics, the natural dye promotion is a very optimistic and promising aspect. There are many naturally occurring flowering plants and foliage from which we can extract colour and produce more cost effective natural dyes products. An attempt was made to screen out natural dye yielding flowers available in Assam and to study the colour yielding property of those flowering plants.
